• Production Time

    Most styles can be completed and ready to ship within 3 weeks, but production time may vary depending on seasonal demands. We hand-block and trim all of our custom made hats. The materials used are often rare or vintage. Ready-to-wear inventory is available in the shop, but many prefer some customization to complete their perfect hat. If you have a deadline or need a rush, let us know and we'll try our best to accommodate you.

  • Fit

    Measure your head’s circumference using a soft tape measure placed about an inch above your eyebrows and round up to the nearest 1/8".

    The chart below is for guidance only; women's and men's sizes don't correlate exactly.

    Hat Size Chart

    Small: 21" to 21-7/8"

    Men’s Fitted Size: 6-5/8 to 6-7/8

    Medium: 22" to 22-1/2"

    Men’s Fitted Size: 7 to 7-1/8

    Large: 22-5/8" to 23-3/8"

    Men’s Fitted Size: 7-1/8 to 7-3/8

    XL: 23-1/2" to 24-1/2"

    Men’s Fitted Size: 7-3/8 to 7-5/8

  • Care

    Felt Hats

    Although felt is water resistant, especially the beaver and suede-finishes , it does not like getting soaked! This will cause your hat to lose its shape.

    When it does get wet, make sure to dry it in a position where it will not be distorted.

    If your hat starts to lose its shape use steam to make it flexible and work it back into shape using your fingers.

    If your hat gets a stain, first try sanding the area with very fine sandpaper. For stubborn stains apply steam and use a sewing pin or a soft brush to break it up.

    Straw Hats

    Straw hats also don't like the rain, so if a shower begins and you don't have an umbrella — run!

    If it does gets a little damp, just as with felt, a little steam will do a lot to bring the straw back to its original shape.

    Whatever the problem, If you are unable to fix it just bring your hat back into the shop and we will try to fix it for you. If the hat needs to be re-blocked, there is a $50 re-blocking fee.

  • Initial Consultation

    An initial consultation will help illustrate the vision of the piece being created. Every piece of information helps to create a custom experience and a product tailored for each individual client; whether it’s inspirational photos, favorite hats in the client’s possession, fabric swatches, or a piece of vintage jewelry. During the consultation, the client will have the opportunity to look at different materials and colors to aid in the construction of their signature headpiece.

    Once a design is decided upon, a timeline will be established for the completion of the hat based on materials needed, specific details for embellishments, and if there is an event where the piece will be worn.

    The cost of the hat will be required at this time to guarantee delivery of product.

    If there is a need for additional fittings, the client can make an appointment to adjust the changes that are crucial for the perfect fit. and styling of their headpiece that complement the agreed-upon vision for their piece.

    Our ultimate goal is to send clients out into the world looking and feeling fabulous, in their uniquely curated or ready to wear headpiece.

  • Custom + Bridal

    Designing and creating a custom headpiece is a really fun process, in which the wearer gets to put their personal touch and signature style into a couture process with ready to wear prices.

    All appointments and fittings are part of the hat making process, at no additional cost to the client.

  • Storage

    Our hats come complete with square cardboard hat boxes, which are ideal for storage. If you are looking for a bit of a fancier box, I highly recommend sarahshatboxes.com. They have a lot of great options. Additionally, a travel case is a great idea for hitting the road or going on a flight. Packing in your suitcase is not advised, unless you are specifically purchasing a pack-able hat. Most of our hats are not pack-able, however, if that is what you are looking for, we will accommodate your needs to the best of our ability. If you don't want the extra baggage, your head is a great place to transport your new headpiece!

  • Returns

    While we do not offer returns or refunds, we want you to be thoroughly satisfied with your purchase. If there are any manufacturing defects, we will cover the cost of shipping and repair/replacement at no cost to you.

    If you have purchased a ready-to-wear item and you’d like to exchange it for another or apply the cost to a custom product within 30 days, reach out and we can discuss any difference in price and the process.

    If an unfortunate incident occurs and your hat is damaged, we can discuss the options for repair. At that time, we will offer a quote and require payment before any work is done.

    We cannot offer any exchange on a customized or discounted item.

    All items exchanged must be in unworn and damage-free condition. This applies to shipping as well, so please be aware when boxing up your purchase that it arrives back to us in the same condition as it left.
